HISTORY

Founded in 1970, the club was formerly known as the “Young Eagles Sporting Club”. Its official seat is at Pavillon, Cap Malheureux, a coastal village in the north of Mauritius. The change of name of the club to “Association Sportive Rivière du Rempart” occurred in 1999/2000 in the context of the regionalization process of sport decided by the Government.
The main sport activity of the club is football. The club has a senior team and a junior team. Since 2002, the club delivers training sessions, in a structure called “Ecole de foot” to a group of 30 young kids every Sunday morning at Cap Malheureux. A group of young players, issued from this structure, takes part every year in football tournaments organized by private institutions or clubs together with many other groups. In 2005 the “Ecole de foot” of our club was champion of “Tournoi de l’Ocean Indien”, a tournament organized by the Municipality of Port-Louis where teams from Réunion Island also participated.
Our club is affiliated to the Mauritius Football Association since 1980. Champion of the 1st division (Regional) of Rivière du Rempart and of the Inter Region championship in 1989, our senior football team was promoted in the second division in 1990. In 2000, our senior team obtained its promotion to the national first division as team champion of the second division in 1999. In the 2008/2009 division one league, our team was ranked fifth.
Apart from football activities, our club is involved in social activities such as blood donation, clean up campaigns, lunch to elderlies and other activities in favour of needy persons.. Membership of our club is opened to all of either sex of the age of eighteen and above.
Players having played at high level in first division teams in the 70’s, are now either office bearers of the club or in the technical staff working with youngsters. Some examples are Mustapha and Mohamed Chitbahal, Jacques Sophie, Harold Sadien, Dorsamy Vithilinga and Govinden Nirsimulu.
The objectives of our club is to have more “écoles de foot” in the region and to consolidate the concept of regionalization as decided by the Government. We are looking forward in years to come to have a playing strength comprising of 100% players from our region, both at senior and junior levels.
We want football to become the gateway to success for the kids and youngsters of the region in all fields of life: education, sports, social integration, nation building, love and sharing.
